Check out our expanding Automotive Aftermarket Express Package

Arrowhead’s Automotive Aftermarket Express offers an ISO-based commercial package that’s specialized to the aftermarket industry – garages, auto body and collision repair, auto parts and accessories stores, brake, muffler, and oil & lube shops, and more – even general mechanical repair for heavy trucks/diesel engines.

Previously known as Universal Underwriters, this commercial package includes coverages for property, GL, auto, garagekeeper's liability and umbrella. Teamed up with Zurich, rated A+ (XV) by A.M. Best, we now offer this same program with an online platform to rate, quote and bind accounts below $50,000 via ArrowheadExchange

"We’re in the process of expanding our Express Package in a state-by-state rollout,” explained Tom Kussurelis, Arrowhead’s chief marketing officer. The program expansion has rolled out in Illinois, Indiana, Minnesota, Missouri, Oregon and North Carolina. In the next couple of months, the expanded program will be available in South Carolina, New Jersey, Connecticut, Georgia, Pennsylvania and California, and remaining states in subsequent months. Producers will be notified when they have access in their specific states to expanded coverages. Right now, our Automotive Aftermarket Express Package is available in all states except Texas, Florida, Louisiana and Hawaii.

Why choose Arrowhead’s Aftermarket Express?

"It is the easiest system with the fastest turn-around time that I’ve ever seen with any carrier- ever," said Abel Puerta, Automotive Aftermarket Express producer in central Washington. Naming several major carriers, he added, "none of them are as easy and fast as your quote and bind portal. I can quote an account in 15 minutes (it’s that long because I’m a slow typist). And your underwriter is amazing, able to turn stuff around in an hour." (Read Abel’s Producer Spotlight.)

"Qualified accounts below $50,000 can be rated, quoted and bound online in minutes," said Steve Goebel, Arrowhead's business development manager for Automotive Aftermarkets. "That’s particularly crucial when a producer has one of those last-minute accounts that seem to crop up regularly, needing coverage right away." Pricing is very competitive in most states, he added.

Automotive Aftermarket coverage highlights

  • Business income: actual loss sustained
  • Business auto liability and physical damage
  • Crime – employee dishonesty, forgery or alteration
  • Equipment breakdown protection
  • Garage keeper’s liability (direct or legal liability basis)
  • General liability and employee benefits liability
  • Mechanics E&O
  • Property coverage extensions
  • Umbrella liability – excess and umbrella

The expansion includes 75-plus lines of coverage, providing a more robust specialized product for automotive industry risks. "In general, a BOP may not include coverages required for this industry," Steve explained. "There are a host of other risks specific to the industry that a BOP alone may not adequately cover."

Steve listed a number of miscellaneous benefits to the Arrowhead program, such as:

  • Customizable coverage options
  • Tow trucks, up to three per location, are accepted
  • Pollutant cleanup and removal, now included, will expand to a $100,000 limit
  • Mechanical risks for heavy truck and diesel repair are accepted
  • Auto repair shops that also offer incidental vehicle sales (up to 20 percent of their business revenue), are acceptable

"This Automotive Aftermarket Insurance Program has a distinguished history dating back to 1922 when Universal Underwriters was formed to cover risks associated with auto dealerships," explained Tom Kussurelis. Zurich American Insurance Company purchased Universal Underwriters Group in 1981; 11 years later, Universal Underwriters began offering insurance for the automotive aftermarket. "That's the program our customers are familiar with today," he said. In 2012, Zurich and Arrowhead teamed up to provide this Automotive Aftermarket Program.

What top 3 tips can you offer to producers selling Auto Aftermarket Express?

Based on their experience with our Automotive Aftermarket Express Package, we asked two of our Business Development team members, Steve Goebel and Brian Jackson, for their advice to producers on growing their book of business with this program. Here are their answers.

  • Shop owners prefer a hands-on approach, so get out there and visit the business first-hand.  "It seems no one’s calling on garage accounts, and I don’t know why," said Producer Abel Puerta in a May phone interview with us. “In just two months, I’ve sold $100k in premium. And I sold another $20k within the last couple of days.”
  • Offer to review their coverages: Chances are, they haven’t been reviewed in years. "I’m finding that most of these garages say ‘Yeah, my policy hasn’t been reviewed in years, so let’s look at it’," Abel added. "We don’t have a lot of rejections."
  • Be sure to explain to shop owners that we offer easy pay online with multiple installment choices – that’s a big help to small shops.

And stay tuned for more details on the Automotive Aftermarket Express expansion. We’ll explain more in coming months.
